I've bought a lot of things on Overstock lately and I seem to be giving all of my purchases high marks. The machine is very light weight so if like me you don't have a dedicated sewing room this is easily stashed away in a nearby closet with no effort or strength required. I had to get used to the thread loading horizontally instead of vertically but it was no time before I was comfortable doing that. changing the presser-foot is a breeze as is the bobbin loading. I am not technically inclined and this accommodates those of us who are not. I sat down and practiced all of the LED stich options and was sewing with incredible ease in no time. The ease of setting the stiches is incredible. This machine practically calls you in to sit down and sew. very happy w purchase and should keep my girls sewing sans headaches for years. lots of useful tricks usually limited to much pricier machines. discovered if lift the presser foot lever you can put a very thick amount of material under foot. only real issue is that the needle position defaults to left when machine turned on rather than center. the threader came off and with some effort put it back on and now it swings right into place and threads needle as it should. also w thread catching on spool notch but they have a note in manual on overcoming that problem. had a bit of issue winding bobbin but that was user error - follow diagram exactly! - when done properly they wind like a charm. used one of these to sew a dress for d2's daughter. i have sewn for years and have a high end embroidery machine. each had a machine but one has a daughter wanting to sew and hers was a good beginner machine. Got 2 for my daughters' birthday this year. It is even very reasonably priced! Thank you, Brother. This Brother machine works as well as any of the others and I am delighted. I am a professional seamstress and have worked with a LOT of machines. I recommend reading the entire manual a couple of times so that all of it's features can be enjoyed. Re-threading worked every time, and the noise disappeared. Also, when I began to hear a different noise when I stitched, it was always traceable to the bobbin thread not quite being in the tension completely. A couple of times the troubleshooting code showed itself, yet, each time it was for something I forgot to do. Anything I could throw at it has been managed with ease. This machine has handled tough heavy-duty zipper replacement in a man's hunting jacket, bridal satin, drapery fabric, denim, quilting cottons, and organza without a blink. Well, since they were out of my budget, I decided to try a Brother. In the past, I have used high-end Viking machines, yet I lost my last one in a move. I have had this machine for almost 2 years now and it is terrific. ![]()
